Staff Sergeant Nicholas Lewis dedicated more than 6 years of his life to the U.S. Army before he was hit by a road side bomb on his second tour in Iraq. He has the scars to show it and he lives in constant pain.
"Some of my biggest challenges were getting around walking, getting in and out of the shower," Lewis says.
But a handful of volunteers and thousands of dollars will help him live just a little bit better.
Donations from Sears and Volunteers from Rebuilding Together have been working for weeks to renovate Lewis' bathrooms, rebuild his deck and install an automatic garage door opener. Things he says, he just couldn't afford to do on his own, but will make life a lot easier.
"I can't say thank you enough," Lewis says.
The money from Sears and the hard work and organization from Rebuilding Together of Colorado Springs has also helped renovate the homes of nearly a dozen other Southern Colorado soldiers.
