Education Commissioner Bill Moloney released the Colorado Student Assessment Program scores Wednesday.
In reading, fourth-graders rated "proficient and advanced" dropped from 63 percent to 61 percent and seventh-graders rated similarly dropped from 63 percent to 59 percent.
In writing, fourth-graders rated "proficient and advanced" dropped from 51 percent to 50 percent and seventh-graders rated so dropped from 52 percent to 50 percent.
Moloney said the results show slow and steady progress from 1997 when fourth-graders were first tested on reading and writing.
