A nationwide index ranks Colorado near the bottom when it comes to comparing residents' charitable giving with household income.
The Boston-based Catalogue for Philanthropy says Colorado ranks 42nd this year, based on tax returns from 2004 of people who itemize deductions.
It says the average annual income of Coloradans was $54,389 but the average charitable gift was $3,677 dollars.
Residents of first-ranked Arkansas had an average annual income of $39,060 but still gave an average of 5,208 dollars.
There is some good news.
The report says Coloradans earning at least $200,000 dollars ranked 26th for generosity, up from 43rd place when the group started its annual index.
