Arapahoe Basin made a big announcement today on the eve of its 60th anniversary.

The rustic ski area has won permission to nearly double its terrain.

Earlier this season A-Basin snatched the title of first ski area in the nation to open.

It beat out nearby Loveland for bragging rights when it opened October 13th.

A-Basin spokeswoman Leigh Hierholzer says things just keep going forward for what had been one of the smallest ski areas in the state.

Hierholzer says a new lift serving Montezuma Basin should be completed this summer if there are no problems.
