Mile High Marker Moves

There's a new mile high marker on the steps of the state Capitol, and this time officials are hoping they've
finally gotten it right. New, more accurate measurements show that some parts of the Mile High City and the Capitol are three feet higher than originally thought.

So the plaque dedicated by Governor Owens Monday is five steps below the plaque installed in 1969. Another plaque was installed in 1909 to mark Denver's 5-thousand-280 elevation but it was later stolen. That monument came closer to hitting the mark, it was only two steps above where the new one now rests.
