Canon City police say they have found human remains and they believe it may be that of a missing Canon City woman, and a person of interest in the case led them to the body.

Police say the remains were recovered Tuesday evening in the Chandler area southeast of Canon City. Investigators say they had been conducting search warrants and interviews in the case of a missing woman, Dalina Denelle “Nell” Turman case earlier in the day before the remains were found.

Police say there is a person of interest in the case that has not yet been arrested. He was the last person to be seen with Turman. Investigators say they executed search warrants Tuesday and the person of interest led them to the body.

"They went out and they started doing searches and interviews and they contacted several people to do interviews. Once that happened the pressure of the investigation came down on one individual and he took us to where the body was located," said Canon City Police Chief Dan Shull.

The exact details surrounding the person of interest's involvement in the case is not yet being released.

Police say the remains are believed to be that of Turman but positive identification will not come until the autopsy is complete. That autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Dalina was my best in 8th and 9th grade. She was so sweet. I was looking her up on facebook and found this article. It broke my heart. May she rest in peace and I pray for her kids and family.
