GRX recycling has paired up with Community Intersections to employ developmentally disabled adults. These workers will take your old electronics and disassemble them. 95 percent of the units are then recycled and at the same time, the disabled workers are learning valuable skills.

"Essentially they want the same things you and I do and that's just to have something meaningful to do," says Bill Morris from GRX.

Dianna St. Vincent supervises the workers and she has noticed some big changes in their behavior. "We're able to give them the one-on-one time so they can succeed at what they are doing," she says.

And for many of these workers, this is the first paid job they've had.

"Throughout their whole lives they've been dependent on others. This is a place where we depend on them," Morris says.

And they like the work. The repetitive nature, fitting the right tool with the right screw. Procedural work, that builds self-confidence and motor skills.

I agree as well that this is a wonderful thing they are doing. The fees for recycling are outrageous. I have a 50 inch Tv and all it needs is a new lamp. But I cant afford to pay for the recycling especially when I'm 45 seconds from the location. What a waste.

You might also want to check in advance with the place you choose since most of them just won't take even a microwave - they only want smaller items like VCRs ...
