GRX recycling has paired up with Community Intersections to employ developmentally disabled adults. These workers will take your old electronics and disassemble them. 95 percent of the units are then recycled and at the same time, the disabled workers are learning valuable skills.

"Essentially they want the same things you and I do and that's just to have something meaningful to do," says Bill Morris from GRX.

Dianna St. Vincent supervises the workers and she has noticed some big changes in their behavior. "We're able to give them the one-on-one time so they can succeed at what they are doing," she says.

And for many of these workers, this is the first paid job they've had.

"Throughout their whole lives they've been dependent on others. This is a place where we depend on them," Morris says.

And they like the work. The repetitive nature, fitting the right tool with the right screw. Procedural work, that builds self-confidence and motor skills.

I appreciate what they are doing here but I can't justify paying $30 to have my TV recycled. We declined because we didn't have the money. Now my TV is going to the landfill. Sad.
