Utility Rate Hike

Xcel Energy, which serves many Colorado communities, including Pueblo, has won unanimous approval of a nearly 89 million dollar natural gas price hike.

That clears the way for a 73 percent increase in heating bills
for Colorado residents over last winter.

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission voted three-to-nothing
to approve the gas-cost adjustment. Xcel says it's needed to help
keep up with the increasing costs of buying natural gas.

Combined with a larger gas-cost adjustment approved last March,
average residential consumers can expect to see the heating portion
of their bill rise about 46 dollars a month.

Businesses can expect an 84 percent average increase, with bills
increasing about 240 dollars a month.

Customers will be hit hardest from November through March.
