Farmer's Markets to Accept Food Stamps

For the first time, food stamp recipients across Colorado will be able to use the government's electronic food stamps card at state farmer's markets.

The move will allow more than 250,000 Coloradans on the government program to access some of the freshest and most nutritious fruits and vegetables.

Sally Haines, director of the Colorado Farmer's Market Association, says a federal grant of nearly $58,000 is helping to put electronic terminals in various markets around the state.

The terminals allow food stamp recipients to pay for food with electronic balance transfer cards like ATM cards that the government issues.
