Four of the campgrounds have been closed all summer. The fifth
has been periodically off-limits because of washed-out roads.
They would be the first campgrounds permanently closed as a
result of the 137-thousand-acre Hayman fire.
The blaze burned for three weeks.
In addition to flooding problems, the campgrounds also contain
unstable dead trees and holes left by trees that burned to their
roots.
The U-S Forest Service is soliciting public comment before
deciding whether to close those campgrounds in the Pike National
Forest.
The deadline for input is October 15th.
