I too, have NO PITY on sexual predators. But now, here is a whole other issue. A juvenile? Please, that was definately not anyone's call to commit murder and condem this man. NO ONE has the right to decide if this man dies. How can another person make such a judgement call? And I'm not defending him, but at 15, if I ever went to a man's hotel room, it would have been on my own accord. At 15, no one could have made me do anything I didn't want to do unless there was a gun held to my head...then that may have been a different story...we'll never know the real ins and outs of this. hey TJ, I know that we say "innocent until proven guilty", but really since when does that truly happen? it's usually "if you wanna save time just plead guilty to a lesser charge!" ... they should run his trial, if he's guilty even in death let the kid go, he did justice the true favor, ain't no cops or justice around here...cmon...gotta do it yourself sometimes! in cases like this, where the punishment is laughably lacking, vigilante justice is called for. The vigilante's arent going out shooting j-walkers or red light runners, only perverts. It was a capitol crime many years ago but they changed the laws to make it more 'civil'. But this is not a civil crime. 'sick and tired' is so right, they get guys who try luring teenage girls, throw them in for 5 years, where they only hang out with others like them, then get out and try more horrendous acts, because they learned it from the 'experts'. To those of you who say that child molesters don't last in prison, YOU are WRONG! There is a special place in Canon City where they all hang out and brag about the horrible things they have done. Funny how his obituary has not been posted. If I was his family, I probably would have a service in my home. If it is posted, I hope people show up and spit on his casket! I think it is sick that a grown man with children could sexually assult a child. But for someone to kill him was not justice. Justice is him having his day in court and the world and his whole family along with his kids knowing what kind of sick man he was. Yet someone out there gave him the easy way out by just ending his life. I would have rather seen him know what it is like to be an outcast from the crimes he committed. He needed jail time, to be on the sex offenders list, and to not be able to see his kids. He needed to live with what he did and face god when it was his time. Not just be able to never give that girl and her family the satisfaction of watching his life being ruined too. He deserved a legal punishment not to be killed like he was. Only God and that girl shall know what really happened now and I hope Jon Hazard burns in hell for what he did to that child. [ Report Abuse ]

I used to work with Jon and I'm not saying he was guilty because I don't know that. But what I can tell you that he was a dishonest person who did'nt want to work and he always tryed to take credit for things other people had done. [ Report Abuse ]

I know that if this was my child, it would have the same out come but only once he was convicted. I have 2 daughters 18 and 14 and if they came to me and told me someone sexually assulted them and the person who did it admitted to me on tape that he did it..........bang! [ Report Abuse ]

To ???...Do I want the boys to know there are people like me? Hell yea I do. I want them to know that there are people who tell it like it is, and want those who hurt little girls to pay dearly for their actions. I want them to grow up knowing that their father was scum, and has now paid the ultimate price for his actions, hopefully by the hand of a relative of the girl. This man admitted to the girl's mother, on tape what he did. There is no doubt of his guilt. He ruined a girl's life (see other posts as to the long time effects this will have), and now he lost his for it. Once old enough to comprehend, these boys need to be told the truth about their sperm-donor of a father so that they may lead their lives down a different and better path. Do I think I'm God, no. Do I have the right to judge, sure. We all do it every day. In one way or another, positively or negatively, we all judge people. No one complains when we judge positively. That's the difference. I agree that the mother is at some fault here too. Now she may have left her daughter with him thinking that he was responsible and that he would take care of her since he has children too, but she might not of had a clue of their relationship! Any way you look at it what he did was wrong!! As an ADULT you don't have SEX with CHILDREN!!! and you don't blackmail them either! This girl should have spoken up...but who knows maybe she felt in danger or she just really liked him and wanted to keep their relationship going for as long as she could! [ Report Abuse ]

This mother ADMITTED TO LEAVING HER DAUGHTER with this man on interstate trips. Since when is it okay or excusable for a parent to leave a teenage girl with a man that was supposedly "only" the father of some kids friends. Why NOT put some blame on the mother? She left this girl alone with this man ON PURPOSE. Depending on which statement she gives for the day - she's either great friends with the guy, or he's only a father of some boy's friend. News break If you are going to print or say something, the boys where not 13 and 10 years old! she was to old to be their friend, she took care of them when he worked. also please think of the children now 3 children hurt because of this man! The person whom took Jon life is also hurting the same children! Did this help the child? did this hurt his sons yes he took what should of been Jon punishment and made two young boy now serve out the time for what their father did! Look at it this way, if the guy was found guilty, he would've hated life in prison anyway. You don't commit crimes against children. Even criminals have boundaries and this guys crossed em. If I were related to the child to whom he committed those acts, I wouldn't have an issue bringing my own justice. SO, what you are all saying is adults who have children in their care should not be responsibile for their actions ?? Maybe the mother thought she was leaving her minor daughter under the care of a responsible adult and she is just as betrayed as the daughter. No matter what the situatioin is of the mother, JON made the choice to abuse his obligation to protect a child as an adult. The fault lies on an out of cotnrol sick sexual issues men have for CHILDREN.(And there are plenty of women with the same issues) No matter how you stack it, Jon was in control to make the decisions as the adult. What a shame his sons have to live with who he was and what he has done. I hope they get the counseling they will need and the boys will get real male role model they deserved in the future. the sad thing is this can go on and on whose fault it is?? but it will never bring him back. we will never see him again. he has been murdered for something he may have never even done...or something might have happened...the only person now to know the truth are the girls and her mother...Jon is gone..I think we should be sharing memories of him. I don't think we the people who knew Jon need to defend him. We knew how carig he was and we knew how much he loved his family. I know for a fact Jon knew this girl before his sons ever did, he knew her mother. Where was this girl's mother when all of this was going on. I truely believe Jon would have already pleaded gulity if he had done this. Jon did not deserve to die like this. Now these boys have to go through life without there father. He will never see these boys play ball, play an instrument, fulfill there dreams. May you watch over your sons from above and stay in our hearts forever. Just to note, this is the original story of the murder, the earlier comments were BEFORE the child allegations were added on. Second, he was NOT convicted - it's so sick how many people are so quick to judge. My not so bright past had me at 14 telling men I was 18. Oh the men I could get in trouble. Either way, this girl was NOT a child, OR a baby. HER OWN MOTHER ADMITTED TO TAKING THE GIRL TO MEET THIS MAN TO GO AWAY WITH at the very least once. Given she got to Grand Junction for long periods of time - the mother should be charged if all this was true, that he exploited a 15 (or 14, as other reports) year old. And for those who say he "must be guilty" because it's hard to bring allegations - you're wrong. As shown, there's not mention of even DNA evidence. MANY girls AND women have been able to bring charges with so much as a single police report without any evidence. [ Report Abuse ]

If the guy did this, he was a sick, sick person. Somehow, according to the article, when Hazard moved to Grand Junction, she also allegedly visited him there for extended periods of time. I do have to ask the obvious, "Where were this girl's parents"? NO, if this happened, it is NOT her fault; presumably it also was not her parent's fault. ok..yeah he served for our country, but he also committed a crime...and a crime against a child no less. not only did he have a sexual relationship with the girl, but he also blackmailed her...how is that right??? he might be a father, but what would he have thought if someone were doing that to his child?? maybe being shot wasn't the way to go about punishing this man, and it may sound cruel, but if he went to prison it would have costed us more to keep him alive...this way whomever did it is getting their justice even if they did go about it the wrong way. As for his children i do feel sorry for them, but also wonder if he had ever tried to abuse them in the same manner as he did the young girl. and why is she just now coming out with this when she should have said something a long time ago...like 3 years ago when it all started. one chomo down and about a few thousand left to go! As a woman who was raped as at 13, my heart goes out to her. From that moment on her life is forever changed. The childhood she knew will not be the same. My perp has since passed but I can tell you from experience, it doesn't make things better. Years of therapy and I still deal with triggers that bring memorie flooding back everyday. I hope the person or persons who killed this man get caught, and are put in prison.... this man may have committed a crime, but he should have gotten the chance to prove his innocence... NO ONE is above the law... and if they find that this murder was due to the fact of his accusational crime, then they should get a higher sentence of incarcration... I always laugh when I see someone saying that this was a good NCO or officer. Guess what? Good NCOs or officers don't get themselves into these messes. The fact that we were paying this man retirement pay disgusts me. I am sure the families of the children that were violated, know this man is guilty. If he is, he got what he deserved. It's about time that people start to take some matters in their own hands. The amount of crimes would go down drastically, if the criminals knew what was coming to them. To many people like this walk on technicalities, only to commit their crime again. Jon was a great friend and dedicated NCO. He dedicated his life to serving this country. We will now never know if he was guilty or innocent of the charges brought against him. I for one know this man to be one of my best friends. I will miss him terribly and my heart goes out to his family. If the person whom killed Jon saved the tax payer millions. The ? is who will help these boys? He took good care of his boys he loved them and they loved him dearly. INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY It's possible this guy did everything he was accused of, and more. If he did, that's terrible, and my prayers go out to his victims. Still, murder is murder. It's also possible he was wrongly accused - most guys a week away from trial have probably turned down a plea agreement, or are begging for one. If he didn't take one, perhaps he was innocent and decided to take his chances in court to prove he wasn't guilty? Either way, the LAW in this country (Patriot Act notwithstanding) says we are innocent til proven guilty. [ Report Abuse ]

Ifthis guy was actually due in court for those allegations and found guilty then the person behind the killing just saved the taxpayer millions in jail fees. if anything we should dedicate a monument for putting sex offender where they belong. Feeding maggots. [ Report Abuse ]

Another local news department is reporting that this guy was due in court next week and was facing ten felony charges including sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual exploitation of a child, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. This certainly doesn't justify his murder. It could, however, have something to do with it. [ Report Abuse ]

I worked with Jon at Peterson AFB from 2002 to 2004. He was one of the best, hardest working, most dedicated NCO's I've ever worked with. He was a genuine GOOD GUY and will be deeply missed. My sincere condolences to the family. I hope whomever did this pays dearly.... [ Report Abuse ]

If Anonymous heard "gun shots" then it may indicate the person was murdered. OR, I guess, he could have fired several times before he turned the weopon on himself...?? OR, he was in a "shootout" with someone else or others...?? [ Report Abuse ]

that guy was a sick man and i think that the "teen" was just defending them self i am glad that that man is no longer on the streets and i hope that the "Teen" is judged fairly. the guy got way less than he deserved he got off lucky how could some one care about a person like that if he was my family i would disown him those kind of people disgust me i think he should have gone to prison and got what was coming to him he shouldn't have succeeded more in ruining that teens life that's messed up i wonder if he did those things to his own kids or did he feel it was only ok to hurt others children and those of you that are sticking up for this pervert make me sick.

How can we sit back and let this guys get away with this they go do time with a bunch more pervs like them selfs then get out and do it again. They dont get no time for this stuff a person that sells weed gets more time then these people even a speeder gets more time this is nuts why dont we put them in population with the real sharks and have them take these guys out instead of putting them in protective custody so they can just talk bout what they did and how there going to do it next time. When there victim is scared for life. We really need to do something bout this before our kids or grand kids gets hurt from one of these monsters. Why was this pervert in the park? A park with a history of perverts being arrested within it. It was a set-up... He was probably there to meet with another prospective victim..and the victim took action to protect themselves. Justice served! It pleases me to see that this recognized pervert is no longer a member of our community. Let this be a stern warning to all sex offenders.

My sister was molested by our former step-father for years and she was beaten by him to keep her mouth shut. My Mom knew something was going on but couldn't prove it because he always did it when she was not around and my sister wouldn't say anything. When my sister finally told us about 4 years ago, the first thing I wanted to do was kill him as he had tried it on my daughter as well. Thankfully my daughter is just like me and threatened to tell someone. It stopped there. The reason I did not kill him is because I still have children to raise and I can't do that from a prison cell. Karma will get him in the long run. He will mess with the wrong man's daughter and he will get what is coming to him, regardless of the form it comes in. I have no sympathy for molestors and pedophiles and the ends they meet. My heart goes out to the boys of this man and to the families of the victims.
