The NATO-led force says 15 insurgents have been killed during a battle in eastern Afghanistan.
NATO says in a statement a base housing Afghan and foreign troops was attacked by insurgents Wednesday in Paktia province.
It says they battled the militants for five hours and called in airstrikes, killing the insurgents. No Afghan or foreign troops were killed. The majority of NATO troops in the east are American.
Taliban militants have stepped up attacks across Afghanistan. President Barack Obama's administration has ordered 21,000 new U.S. troops to join the fight in a hope of reversing the Taliban gains.
