A middle school teacher who pleaded guilty for using a stun gun on a student has been sentenced.
Shaun Ellis was ordered on Tuesday to serve six years of supervised probation.
He also must undergo mental health counseling, take appropriate medication to treat his bipolar disorder, and write a letter of apology.
Ellis pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in September.
He was working in an after-school program at Horace Mann Middle School when the incident occurred in January.
Prosecutors had said he took a 13-year-old boy out of class after the boy had tripped a girl the night before at a basketball game.
The boy had told authorities that Ellis had stun him three times and punched him in the stomach.
