Snow is expected to develop for our Monday afternoon and overnight hours. Bands of heavier snow are possible..and something we will be monitoring throughout the day today. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for far northern El Paso County where ~4" are possible by Tuesday morning. Also ahead, a High Wind Watch for much of southeast Colorado from 4-11am Tuesday morning as wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph. While the race for Colorado's Fifth Congressional District around traditional G-O-P stronghold Colorado Springs was closer than many expected, a new poll suggests Republican Doug Lamborn is pulling away.
With a visit from Vice President Dick Cheney anticipated Friday, a Denver Post poll shows Lamborn is growing a lead over Democrat Jay Fawcett. The latest polls show Lamborn leading Fawcett 47% to 40%. The poll of 400 likely voters has a margin of error of +/- 5%
The race got plenty of attention from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, hoping to swing the district to their side. But Colorado College political science professor says Lamborn may be benefiting from a backlash against all the hype surrounding Democratic gains this election year.
Since it was created in 1972, the district has never gone to a Democrat.
