State officials Wednesday afternoon confirmed Colorado's ninth West Nile-related death this year.

Officials with the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment say an 85-year-old man died Tuesday in Pueblo where
he was undergoing treatment for encephalitis.

Doctor Christine Nevin-Woods of the Pueblo City-County Health
Department says people should take every precaution against the
mosquitoes that carry the virus.

He was the first man to die from West Nile in Colorado -- but
like many of the other victims -- he was elderly.

The human deaths have been 77-year-old and 69-year-old women
from Weld County, 83-year-old and 84-year-old women from Pueblo
County, a 67-year-old woman from Boulder County, 68-year-old and
80-year-old women from Larimer County and a 79-year-old woman from
Fremont County.

There are now 775 cases reported in the state.
