A Pueblo man is being held on $50,000 bond for multiple charges, in an apparent family dispute that erupted Tuesday near a Pueblo West school.
Robert Lee Cowan, age 34, faces charges including kidnapping, child abuse, domestic violence and possession of a weapon at an educational facility.
Local law enforcement has been investigating this case for more than a week. Cowan’s arrest is connected to an Amber Alert issued last week in Montana. Cowan, his wife and three children were reported missing. Investigators believed they may have gone to Montana. They were indeed found near Bozeman at a para-military compound.
Montana authorities have decided not to file charges, since families may take their kids out of state and this family claimed to be on a vacation with no issues, “ said Pueblo Sheriff Dan Corsentino.
But one of the children disagrees, saying his mom was shot and one of his siblings was abused while in Montana. “We have evidence to support that claim,” said lead investigator J.R. Hall.
Back in Colorado on Tuesday, while a detective was interviewing one of the children at school, Cowan showed up. Police say he was heavily armed with guns and knives. As a result, the school was locked down.
Meantime, Sheriff Corsentino says the investigation will continue. Cowan is scheduled to be back in court on Monday.
