The alleged incident happened Monday morning at school and the student, who asked to remain anonymous, says this is the first time he's ever had a run in with this teacher.
He says his teacher slapped him during his first period biology class...they were having a moment of silence for their fellow classmate Ricky Arce who was killed last week during a high speed chase. The student says he and another student made a commotion in the back of the room when they noticed that the classroom snake was moving.
"The snake moved and it had never moved before so I hit him to get his attention so he'd see the snake," the student said.
And that’s when he says the alleged incident happened.
"The teacher came up and hit me and the other kid in the back of the head and said we were being disrespectful.”
District-11 spokesperson Elaine Naleski would not comment but says the district is investigating.
"The teacher has been placed on administrative leave and now our district is doing an investigation into the incident and that’s all we know at this time until they finish the investigation," Naleski said.
The school district says the teacher will remain on leave until the investigation is complete.
Police confirmed Tuesday that a report was filed with them and they are investigating the incident as well.
