The Federal Aviation Administration has approved Frontier's application for “flag carrier status.''
That allows Frontier to fly between two international destinations, fly more than two hours beyond United States borders, and fly to Alaska and Hawaii.
Frontier has been operating flights to Mexico under special authority from the FAA.
Airline representatives have worked with the FAA for six months to complete the application process. That included proof of compliance with an additional 87 Federal Aviation Regulations.
