El Paso County Commissioner Douglas Bruce is known for being an outspoken elected official. During a debate on 11 News, It's not what he said. But, what he wrote that has some wondering about his true intentions.
Last Friday, County Commissioner Douglas Bruce and Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera went head to head on 11 News at 5 and 6 am to debate ballot questions 200 and 201.
Before the debate, Bruce signed into our building saying the reason for his visit ... "destroy Colorado Springs."
"I was making a joke. J-o-k-e," Bruce told 11 News on Tuesday. Mayor Rivera signed in after him. And immediately saw what Bruce had written. "I think it's typical of Douglas Bruce. He says he wants to destroy the city and that's what he's trying to do."
Bruce says that's not true. He thinks opponents are trying to personally attack him. "This isn't about me. I'm not on the ballot," said Bruce. "I just want the public to be aware modest tax relief and balanced city budgets are nothing to be afraid of."
"He's trying to eliminate 35 million dollars from the general fund," said Mayor Rivera. "I don't think its good for the city. I'm working hard to defeat both measures."
