A Fort Carson soldier who survived a deadly helicopter crash in Iraq has returned home to Colorado Springs. Twenty-seven-year-old Sergeant Ray Littlefield arrived home yesterday, a week after the Chinook helicopter he boarded in Iraq was shot out of the sky.
Sixteen soldiers died, including four from Fort Carson. Thirteen soldiers from the post were injured. Doctors at Fort Carson examined Littlefield on Sunday, then gave him permission to go home.
Littlefield is anticipating the birth of a child on Thursday. He had been en route to Colorado Springs for a planned delivery when the helicopter was shot down.
