Snow showers continue this evening creating slick road conditions across southern Colorado. Overnight the N Pikes Peak Region sees a second push of moisture and locally heavy snowfall will once again be possible. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for far northern El Paso County where ~4" are possible by Tuesday morning. Also ahead, a High Wind Warning for much of southeast Colorado from 4-11am Tuesday morning as wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph. A Fort Carson soldier who survived a deadly helicopter crash in Iraq has returned home to Colorado Springs. Twenty-seven-year-old Sergeant Ray Littlefield arrived home yesterday, a week after the Chinook helicopter he boarded in Iraq was shot out of the sky.
Sixteen soldiers died, including four from Fort Carson. Thirteen soldiers from the post were injured. Doctors at Fort Carson examined Littlefield on Sunday, then gave him permission to go home.
Littlefield is anticipating the birth of a child on Thursday. He had been en route to Colorado Springs for a planned delivery when the helicopter was shot down.
