A 17-year-old Denver girl is recovering after getting a hit and run driver. It happened on Saturday night in Colorado Springs on Jet Wing Drive near East Fountain Blvd. and South Powers Blvd.

The victim, Gloria Ortega, was staying with family.

It was around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday when Ortega decided to run over to the 7-Eleven to get something to drink. She decided to walk since it's only a block away. But when she tried to cross the street, the victim said, a car going the wrong way on the road plowed right into her.

Ortega told doctors it all happened too fast and can't remember much. Mayra Quinteros who is the victim's niece spoke with 11 News. "All that she remembers is falling and getting onto the grass," said Quinteros.

Police say they have little information about the car that hit Ortega.
"The information we have is that it was a small dark colored vehicle," said Sgt. Brian Steckler who is with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

It's the kind of car Gloria Ortega thinks bolted into her. "There's lots of reasons people run or simply just because they're afraid of what's occurred and what may happen to them," said Sgt. Steckler.

Thankfully Gloria Ortega was only feet from the house. She crawled to the front lawn, leaving behind her a trail of blood. She waited for about an hour in the yard before her family found her. "She's like, 'help me, help me,' and I looked and she was bleeding and she couldn't move," said Quinteros.

The victim's family said they rushed her straight to the hospital. "She's like, 'just hurry, hurry, I'm in a lot of pain,'" said Quinteros.

The impact dislocated Ortega's shoulder, broke her finger, fractured her leg and left her with stitches on her forehead and thigh.

Ortega also has an eight-month-old baby boy, who her family says, she now cannot nurse because of pain medication she's on.

Her family hopes whoever did this does the right thing and turns themselves in.

The suspect responsible for the hit and run accident could face charges including vehicular assault, failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident.
