Prison Guards get Probation

By: Associated Press

Two former federal prison guards who testified that other guards brutalized inmates have been sentenced to probation for their roles in the crimes.

Jake Geiger and Charlotte Gutierrez had pleaded guilty to
assaulting one inmate each at the U-S Penitentiary in Florence.

The two were charged with misdemeanors in a plea bargain with
prosecutors.

Gutierrez admitted she kicked an inmate lying on the floor with
his hands cuffed behind his back. She also admitted writing a false
memo to justify the use of force, and said she injured her shin to
make it look like the inmate attacked her.

Geiger admitted he punched an inmate for dumping food on him.

Three other former guards convicted of felonies face up to 14
years in prison when sentenced next month.
