Adelphia Trial Moves Forward

By: Associated Press
Updated: Mon 5:16 PM, Aug 11, 2003

A judge says the founder of Adelphia Communications will be tried together with other men accused of looting the cable company. John Rigas and his son Michael had asked to be tried separately. But U-S District Judge Leonard Sand rejected that request. He also refused to dismiss some of the charges against them.

The two other men are John Rigas' son Timothy -- a former Adelphia executive vice president -- and Michael Mulcahey – former director of internal reporting. Prosecutors allege they looted corporate accounts, hid more than two billion dollars in liabilities from investors and helped drive the company into bankruptcy. All four have pleaded innocent. Adelphia is based in Greenwood Village.
