Council to Decide on Guns in City Buildings

The Colorado Springs City Council is expected to make a decision Tuesday on whether to ban openly carrying firearms in city buildings. The proposal was prompted by a man who has been carrying a shotgun to city council meetings.

Officials say 38-year-old Don Ortega showed up at a July 8th council meeting carrying a shotgun, sat in the back row and put the gun on the seat beside him.

People remained frightened even though he disassembled it and put the shells in his pocket. Councilman Darryl Glenn says city officials have an obligation to provide a safe environment and bringing a gun to such a meeting crosses the line.
