Crews Return

Members of Colorado's 302nd Airlift Wing based at Peterson Air Force Base, are back home after helping Califonia firefigthers gain control over dozens of major wildfires.

Two of the 302nd's C-130HC aircraft flew 48 missions over the Simi fire in eastern Ventura County, Califonia on Wednesday alone. They arrived in the state Tuesday.

Three Air National Guard units also deployed C-130's to help in the firefighting effort.

In all, the military aircraft dropped more than 129,000 gallons of
fire retardant.

A spokesman for the California Department of Forestry says the
Simi fire burned more than 116,000. It is now 100% contained.

The wildfires raging across California burned a total of 750,000 acres, 3,400 homes and killed 20 people.
