West Nile Cases

By: Associated Press
Updated: Sat 6:52 PM, Aug 09, 2003

Colorado reported 12 new cases of the West Nile virus on Friday, and continues to lead the nation with 166 cases in humans.

Texas has reported 34.

The state also leads the nation in deaths with four of the seven
reported so far.

Health officials are urging people to wear insect repellant when outdoors, clear any standing water from near their homes and wear long-sleeve shirts.

Because of computer problems at the state health department
yesterday, the 12 reported new cases may be on the low side. The
previous three days saw 82 human cases added to the list.
