Imagine sitting inside your own home and then two men barge into your house and rob you at gunpoint. It's a scary situation one babysitter went through last night. Police say the two men broke into a home on the 3900 block of Broadmoor Valley Road around 11pm.
This is about the 50th home invasion of the year. It’s a growing problem here in Colorado Springs. In fact, home invasions are up 77% from last year.
At the house, you can still see where police dusted for fingerprints seaching for any clue. It was late night when the babysitter heard a knock at the door and when he opened it, police said that's when the two men with guns forced their way in.
They weren't there long, just enough time to break into the safe, but were unsuccessful. They settled for a purse and an expensive watch. They ran out of the house and disappeared into the night, leaving behind a frightened babysitter. Cops said with home invasions becoming a growing problem, they caution residents to be aware. Sgt. Bob Benjamin with Springs Police said, “Lock your door and don’t answer your to anybody, especially if you don’t know them."
Police describe the suspects as two black males in their mid 20's, wearing dark hooded sweatshirts. If you know anything about last night's robbery, call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP in Colorado Springs or at 542-STOP in Pueblo.
