West Nile Virus

A Pueblo man has died from West Nile virus, the 47th person killed by the disease in Colorado this year.

The man's name is not being released. He was 83 years old and died Oct. 17. He had encephalitis.

The health department says they've found 66 new human cases of the disease. That brings the statewide total to 2,543 for the year.

Health officials say it is unlikely anyone will contract the disease after Oct. 1 because mosquitoes have switched to nectar meals and stopped biting humans.

Colorado has had more deaths and more human cases than any other state this year.
