Activists Say Tougher to Rouse Jaded Evangelical Voters in '06

Activist groups say getting evangelical voters excited about the November elections could be tougher this year.

A Southern Baptist Convention official says conservative Christians are somewhat disenchanted with Republicans. Religious conservatives are said to be unhappy the GOP-led Congress hasn't paid enough attention to so-called "values issues."

Conservative Christian groups have started trying to mobilize evangelical voters this fall by focusing on issues such as gay marriage and abortion.

Colorado-based Focus on the Family has started voter registration drives in eight states.

The Southern Baptist Convention is helping promote a Focus on the Family DVD about gay marriage entitled "Why Not Gay Marriage?"
