West Nile Virus Human Death

Maria Flores died on Friday in a hospital in Greeley. She had leukemia, but it was encephalitis that killed her.

According to the Federal Centers for Disease Control, Colorado now has the most human West Nile Virus Cases of any state... and more than a third of the country's total.

There are 72 confirmed human cases in the state, with 31 new cases reported today.

Colorado was first hit by West Nile virus last year, but the
problem became much more serious this summer.

Health officials say the symptoms of the disease are so mild in
some cases that it's not worth conducting expensive tests to
confirm its presence.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports
on its Web site that Colorado has the most human West Nile cases of
any state, and more than a third of the country's total.
