Missionary Ridge Fire

(Durango-AP) -- Fire crews feel they're getting the upper hand
on the Missionary Ridge fire burning north of Durango.
Firefighters have extended the containment line around 40
percent of the 71-thousand-acre blaze. That's up from 35 percent.
But fire officials say they can't let up but have to keep trying
to rein in the fire.
The fire has destroyed at least 56 homes since someone started
it three weeks ago. Just 152 homes remain evacuated.
At the Hayman fire, crews pushed back full containment to
tomorrow night. They had expected to fully contain the 137-thousand
acre blaze tonight but say yesterday's heavy rains prevented crews
from attacking the lines. It's 90 percent contained.
At least 133 homes and more than 400 other buildings were lost
in that blaze.
