Ute Trail Wildfire

A fire burning near Cascade, just off Highway 24, is nearly contained.

Firefighters started working the fire about 12:30 Sunday afternoon.
They believe a lightning strike started the Ute Trail fire Saturday, and then smoldered overnight.

The fire only burned a couple of acres, but was visible from Highway 24 and I-25.

Traffic was slowed because many drivers pulled to the side of the road to watch.

Fire crews fought the blaze from the air and the ground.

Several agencies took part... including Manitou
Springs, Colorado Springs and the City of Cascade.
