Colorado leads the nation in the number of human West Nile virus cases.

According to the state health department website, there are 28 confirmed cases.

Four of those are in Pueblo county, four in Fremont county, one in Huerfano county, and one in Otero county.

There have been no confirmed human cases yet in El Paso county, but the county does have the highest number of bird cases in the state.

Health officials say the mosquito larva's development is slowed by the relatively cooler weather.

They expect to have the first human case in El Paso county within a couple of weeks.
