It's a command performance for Kobe Bryant: a Colorado judge has rejected his request to skip his initial court appearance in his sexual assault case.
A defense attorney says the request, filed Thursday, was
quickly rejected.
Later, at a three-hour hearing, media lawyers argued that
reporters have a right to see the affidavits supporting search and
arrest warrants in the case.
Both the prosecution and defense want them to remain sealed.
They say news reports about the documents would taint the jury pool
in sparsely populated Eagle County, hurting both sides' chances for
a fair trial.
Media lawyers say requests for sealing documents are supposed to
be backed by evidence, not opinion, that releasing them would be
harmful.
The judge says he won't rule before Bryant's Wednesday court
appearance.
