Computer Voting

Computer scientists at an international convention of election officials are warning that voting by computer will create the potential for widespread fraud.

Scientists and researchers are talking to participants at the gathering of the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers that runs through Sunday in Denver.

David Dill of Stanford University characterized machines as an unlocked bank vault.

Replacing old voting machines with electronic devices was on the association's agenda. A federal law passed after the 2000 electio
debacle in Florida requires Colorado and other states to replace
old punch-card systems and improve access to voting.
