Mesa Verde Wildfire

Fire officials say they expect to contain a wildfire burning in Mesa Verde National Park by Friday.

The 27-hundred-acre fire continued to burn in a remote section of the park even after the archaeological preserve reopened on Monday. Officials say it poses no threat.

Lightning sparked the Balcony House Complex fire there last week.

The fire has cost an estimated one-point-seven (m) million dollars to fight.

Meantime, lightning sparked 16 small blazes in northwestern Colorado yesterday.

At least three of the fires have already been contained.

Wildfires are now burning on about eleven-thousand-600 acres in the state.
