Enrollment in information technology programs at some Colorado community colleges and universities has dropped by as much as 50% over the past three years.
Educational leaders are worried by the statistics, fearing the state may be in danger of losing its bragging rights as having one of the most educated tech work forces in the nation. They say the trend could ultimately lead to a technology brain drain nationwide.
Now, many students are going after a more general education. The decline in enrollment comes as companies are increasingly shifting new tech jobs overseas in search of cheap labor.
