Smoking Ban Reignites in Pueblo

Pueblo City Council members say they want nothing to do with a proposal to exempt bars from a new smoking ban. Bar owners want the council to put the question on the November ballot, avoiding the need to collect petition signatures.

But Councilman Bob Schilling says he doesn't think the council should go anywhere near the issue. Schilling voted for the ban last year and faced a recall attempt because of it. Schilling and two other council members survived the recall election, but Councilman Ted Lopez Junior did not.

Bar owners say the smoking ban is hurting them economically. State Representative Dorothy Butcher and local bar owners plan to gather more than 2,200 petition signatures by August 22nd to put the issue to a vote.
