3 Southern Colorado Schools Receive "Blue Ribbon" Honors

Three Southern Colorado schools have been named 2011 National Blue Ribbon Schools.

Wildflower Elementary School in Colorado Springs, Heritage Elementary School in Pueblo and Las Animas Elementary School in Las Animas are among the 305 schools nationwide to be honored.

Schools receiving this award are recognized for overall academic excellence, or for successfully closing achievement gaps. All public and private K-12 schools in the nation are eligible for this honor. Before selecting the award winners, the Department of Education asks for nominations from top education officials in every state, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, the Department of Defense Education Activity and Bureau of Indian Education. The Council for American Private Education nominates private schools.

All Blue Ribbon-named schools will be recognized in a conference and awards ceremony in Washington D.C. November 14-15.

Great job to all Wildflower staff, students and families! @ Nancy - I agree with you. What a random statement from Joe. Let's celebrate, where we should should celebrate and acknowledge their efforts! D-2 is doing great things!!!

Idiotic statement. These teachers and students deserve praise for doing something so special. How exactly do you falsify CSAP scores? Does someone at the school have an 'in' at CDE? Quit bringing down the community and start believing that kids of diverse backgrounds are actually really intelligent.

Employees in Harrison D2 know that the scores at Wildflower Elementary were falsified to achieve that result--I know several who have said they are under gag orders not to disclose it. Even if you do not post this comment, you should look into it.
