Deputies Shoot Suspects

For the first time in several years, El Paso County Sheriff's deputies are forced to shoot two suspects.

The incident happened around 9:00 this morning, after the Sheriff's Department was called to a home at Rollercoaster and Queensmere in Black Forest, where a mother said her 34 year old son was stealing guns from her.

When deputies arrived, the mother and son were struggling with
each other. The son allegedly pointed the hand gun and the deputies who then fired three shots.

Both the mother and her son were hit in the shoulder. They will be
okay, according to El Paso County Sergeant Jim Groth.

The son of the woman who called authorities, 34 year old Gardner Ewing, was arrested and taken from the hospital to the Criminal Justice Center, where he is being held on $50,000 bond.

As the District Attorney's office investigtes the incident, the two deputies are on routine administrative leave. Each has been with the Department for about seven years.

The Sheriff's Office says it's been almost six years to the day since a deputy shot and wounded a suspect.
