A Colorado Springs man has been arrested and charged with online child pornography.

Kevin Taft, 39, of Colorado Springs was arrested on February 6 after detectives with the Douglas County Detectives High-Tech Crimes Unit allegedly caught him acting inappropriately with what he thought was an underage girl online.

Detectives say the chats became sexual in nature. The investigation started in October, 2008 and continued throughout the end of the year.

Taft faces charges in Douglas County of three counts of Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child and six counts of Promotion of Obscenity to a Minor. He also faces charges in Ft. Lupton of Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child and Promotion of Obscenity to a Minor.

Taft was arrested in Colorado Springs and transferred to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is February 13.

“I am very proud of the work that my detectives have been doing. This tenacity shows that they are steadfast in the goal of making sure our youth are protected from on-line predators”, stated Sheriff Dave Weaver.

Kevin Taft is my father. you people have no right to judge him without knowing him!!! you only know what the media allows you to know so you cannot make judgement until you know all the facts! he is a good man who needs help. he has ptsd and seperation anxiety. im not saying that excuses him for what he did but it does mean that he wasnt in the right mind when it happened. i believe in my dad and i hope he doesnt go to jail but maybe a mental instution to help him .and those of you who say he should get a bigger punishment i have one thing to say to you. that is that you obviously are biased and think it would be okay to actually touch a child or kill someone then talk to them on the internet. you apparently have not heard teenagers talk these days. half of the words we say are related to sex and how they "did it with someone older than them." for petes sake people instead of trying a guy who just talked about it go and catch real criminals who do a lot worse!!
