Wildfires were burning on more than 9,000 acres
in Colorado on Wednesday, according to the Rocky Mountain Area
Coordination Center in Denver. Some of the major blazes:

Brush Mountain
Started: July 8.
Location: 30 miles north of Grand Junction.
Size: 4,823 acres.
Containment: 45 percent.
Damage: None.
On Scene: 361 fire personnel, four helicopters, three dozers, 13
engines and nine water tenders.
Cost: $1,391,000.
Cause: Human caused, under investigation.

Yankee Gulch Fire
Started: June 16.
Location: 35 miles southwest of Meeker.
Size: 1,503 acres.
Containment: Officials allowing fire to clear out dead
vegetation.
Damage: No structures threatened.
On Scene: Two personnel.
Cost: $40,000.
Cause: Lightning.

Bear Creek Fire
Started: July 6.
Location: North of Durango in the Weminuche Wilderness.
Size: 1,864 acres.
Containment: Officials allowing fire to clear out dead
vegetation.
Damage: No structures threatened.
On Scene: 266 fire personnel on scene, six engines, one
helicopter.
Cost: $767,000.
Cause: Lightning.

Carr Creek Fire
Started: Tuesday
Location: Two miles southwest of the Brush Mountain fire.
Size: 150 acres.
Containment: No estimate.
Damage: Six residences threatened, three evacuated.
On Scene: 100 fire personnel, six engines, one dozer and one
water tender, two single-engine tankers and one heavy air tanker,
per officials on the scene.
Cost: No estimate.
Cause: Believed human caused.

Balcony House Complex Fire
Started: Tuesday.
Location: Southeastern section of Mesa Verde National Park.
Size: 1,000 acres.
Containment: None.
Damage: Park closed. No ruins threatened.
On Scene: Two crews and a management team ordered to scene.
Cost: No estimate.
Cause: Lightning.
