ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a man was shot and wounded by New Mexico State Police after a chase that started in Colorado late Thursday.
Officials say Charles Dale Conner Jr. of Blanca, Colo., was airlifted to a hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., for a gunshot wound in the arm.
The Colorado State Patrol says a trooper stopped to check on Conner east of Alamosa and became suspicious that he was drunk.
The patrol says Conner fled in a pickup from the trooper and an Alamosa County deputy who was assisting. The patrol says Conner rammed officers' cars and deputies fired at his pickup.
He crossed into New Mexico, where the State Police and Taos County deputies punctured one of his tires and he ran off the road.
It's not yet known why the New Mexico officer fired.
