The biggest concern for this afternoon/evening will be frigid temperatures. Highs will only max in the teens and 20s with breezy conditions and wind chills in the single digits. Throughout the afternoon, a few light snow showers are possible. Any accumulations should stay under 1" and is not a big concern. The park service says all backcountry campgrounds leading up to
the lake will remain closed until the bear is trapped.
The black bear attacked two men in their 20s as they slept in
the Odessa Gorge area over the weekend.
One man suffered a bite and claw wounds to the forehead and
scalp while the other was scratched in the head before the bear
fled the campsite.
Rangers say everyone in the campground used proper food storage
Black bears aren't usually aggressive against humans. The last
black bear attack in Rocky Mountain National Park was in 1971 and
resulted in one death.
