A citation could include large fines and up to a year of jail
time.

With the risk of wildfires increased by the weather, law
enforcement is cracking down on careless smokers.

The Colorado Legislature enhanced the penalties for the crime
during last summer's special session.

The state patrol has issued 180 tickets since that time.

Lawmakers who sponsored the legislation say they want to see the
law enforced.
