Pledge Decision on Hold

(San Francisco-AP) -- A federal appeals court judge has put an
indefinite hold on his ruling that declares the Pledge of
Allegiance unconstitutional.

The delay means a panel or all of the court's judges can
reconsider the controversial ruling.

Attorney General John Ashcroft says the government will seek a
rehearing.

The California man who sued to keep his child from having to
listen to the Pledge says the stay doesn't bother him.

A federal appellate panel ruled yesterday that the phrase
"under God" violates the Constitution.

The ruling prompted outrage across the country and
resolutions of condemnation in the House and the Senate.
