An American citizen who Attorney General John Ashcroft says joined ``al-Qaida's jihad'' against the U-S has reached a plea deal.
The man (Iyman Feris) has pleaded guilty to providing support to terrorists.
The government says he was involved in a plot to sabotage the Brooklyn Bridge.
Attorney General John Ashcroft says Faris appeared to be a ``hard-working American truck driver.''
But in reality, Ashcroft says Faris was an al-Qaida operative, who secretly scouted sites for terror attacks ``that could have killed many of his fellow citizens.''
Ashcroft says al-Qaida knew Faris could travel freely about the country -- ``wrapped in the cloak of American citizenship.''
