Rape Investigator Quits

A member of a panel investigating the Air Force Academy sex abuse scandal has resigned, after questioning the truth of some of the rape allegations.

The Rocky Mountain News reports that Amy McCarthy quit because
of intense criticism of her views. In several interviews, McCarthy
said some of the allegations were suspect -- because female cadets
may have been involved in high-risk behavior, such as drinking and
playing strip poker.

McCarthy was a 1982 graduate of the academy.

The independent panel was formed to look into claims by dozens of female cadets who say they were ignored or punished after they reported sexual abuse or rape. It is scheduled to meet for the
first time Monday.
