United Airlines says it will be the first commercial carrier to offer two-way e-mail capability aboard all domestic flights.
Passengers will be able to plug their laptops into jacks on Verizon Airfone handsets to transmit e-mails.
Colorado's largest airline has offered JetConnect service on a trial basis on some domestic aircraft since December.
The carrier has been charging around six dollars a flight for instant messaging, one-way text messaging and select news, weather and other information.
The new service, including e-mail, will cost about $16 a flight. It should be available by the end of the year.
