A death in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Park officials say a 58-year-old man from Louisville fell 800 feet to his death yesterday while descending Mount Meeker in the southeast part of the park.
Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says the man and his hiking partner had reached the summit of 13,911 foot Mount Meeker in the morning.
They were between the fourteener Longs Peak and Mount Meeker when the victim fell around 1:30 p.m.
Two park rangers on a climbing patrol saw the fall and reached the victim within 30 minutes, but he had no pulse.
Patterson described the man's injuries as "massive."
The victim was pronounced dead at 2:24 p.m.
His name was not immediately released.
